USBs have replaced DVDs as the storage media for slide scanning projects, allowing for more flexibility in sizing, sharing, and backing up scanned images. Understandably, people are comfortable with DVDs If you do choose DVDs as your storage medium, consider getting a USB as well for maximum protection for your investment in.

Transfer 35mm Slides

Most Slides to DVD scan projects are 35mm slides, although we also support other formats as well (large format, 126, and more). All slides are positive film that becomes visible when light shines through them. True scanning involves “reading” each slide line by line, capturing every square inch in resolution determined by the customer.

Choose the Resolution That is Right for You

Resolution is a function of the number of dots per inch, or DPI, that a particular slide scan project uses to read an image. The higher the DPI, the higher the resolution of the scanned slide. Pixels are another name for “dots”. When planning your Slide to DVD project, consider which resolution you prefer:

  1. 1200 DPI – a basic scan level when preservation, as opposed to viewing, is the objective
  2. 3200 DPI – a solid quality slide scan resolution for family quality viewing and archiving
  3. 6400 DPI – high level resolution for special photos or photos that will be published or archived

For example, we’ve scanned thousands of images for an engineering company whose objective was to preserve technical drawings. We chose 1200 dpi, with no special editing. On the other hand, we’ve scanned thousands of images at 6400 DPI for a museum that wanted archival, publishable quality.

Slides to DVD (as well as Photos to DVD and Negatives to DVD) have several quality options available for format type (jpeg or tiff), detailed cleaning, and image restoration for damaged slides.
