Reborn Audio/Video offers negative to DVD or CD, scanning for color, black and white, large format, and most other negative formats. While scanning to digital devices like USBs is the most popular format, DVDs can hold thousands of pictures, depending on the resolution chosen, which affects file size. CDs have a smaller capacity and can hold hundreds of negatives.

Negatives to DVD (as well as Photos to DVD and Slides to DVD) have several quality options to choose from depending on your needs. Options include scan quality, resolution, and finish editing.

Several Levels of Negative to DVD Scanning

We offer three levels of negative scanning a the consumer level:

  • Economy – large number of negatives that don’t require high resolution and includes air dusting.
  • Keepsake – higher resolution for family quality viewing and includes post-scanning scratch and dust removal
  • Heirloom negative to DVD – high resolution for special images, possibly for publishing and includes prescan hand cleaning

All levels include automatic light and color correction, close cropping, and orientation, while Keepsake and Heirloom also include individual editing for each image. Reborn Audio Video uses flatbed scanners for all negative scans.

For professional archival needs (like museum projects), use tiff format for the file type as opposed to jpeg. Tiff scans take more than twice the time and produce much larger files spo they are . Professional publishing also uses tiff.

Negative to DVD projects organize scanned images according to the folders and naming conventions that you choose.

DVD Considerations

A favorite option when scanning negatives to DVD is to create slideshows of the images. Optional music adds a special touch to memorial, anniversary, graduation, and other events.

Remember that DVDs and CDs can be broken and damaged. If you choose this option, be sure to back them up by copying to a computer disc or the cloud. Copies can also be stored on USBs and external hard drives.

Several benefits when you digitize negatives include:

  1. Digital files are easy to back up
  2. Scanned negatives share instantly through the internet
  3. Edit scanned images with Photoshop or other tools
