DVCam is the professional version of miniDV, so converting DVCam to DVD is more important than ever. It is a larger format, recorded on professional equipment, and delivers outstanding digital quality. Unfortunately, it is still magnetic tape, and, like all magnetic tape, deterioration of the tape and a lack of machines to play it are major drawbacks.
See “The Top 5 Reasons for Converting Video Tape to DVD” to understand the risk inherent with DVCam video tape. DVCam to DVD by Reborn Audio/Video preserves the DVCam video in digital format for safety, portability, and distribution.
Digitize DVcam to DVD or Digital, Which is Best?
Unless you have a specific reason to use DVDs, digital is the best format when converting DVCam.
Damage, loss, and wear are all enemies of DVDs. A damaged DVD that is not readable by a DVD player is also not convertible any longer, either. If a tape breaks, splice it. If the tape is actually missing, repair is not an option. This is the case with DVDs.
DVDs are cumbersome to share compared to digital files and require copying and shipping to share them. If you choose DVDs when you convert DVCam tapes, make additional copies to protect your investment. Make digital copies on a disc drive if you require DVDs, to protect the video. Digital files are playable without the disc or disc player, and will produce new DVDs if needed. If you do desire DVD videos, invest in an additional DVD player. Players will not last forever either, and their manufacture will cease sooner than you think.
On the other hand, digital files back up easily, play on most digital devices, are editable, and are shared instantly through the internet. mp4s, the current video standard, will play on computers, laptops, smartphones, smart TVs, tablets, and more.
