Hi8 to DVD and VHS to DVD from Turkey!

Today, we uncovered hours of previously forgotten camcorder footage taken during a vacation to visit family in Turkey. Just like VHS to DVD, our Hi8 to DVD service restores forgotten memories, too! The family again watches videos from decades past after many years in the basement. The kids in the videos are now the adults ordering digital conversion!

Videotapes from overseas are a challenge, as different formats are standard in various parts of the world. NTSC is the format for North America and other countries, but Turkey uses a format called PAL. Each format requires a different kind of player to play the tape in the correct format. A few older players can play multiple formats in the same machine to convert Hi8 to DVD.

A few customers learn the hard way to bring their video equipment with them on foreign vacations rather than buy the equipment at their destination. I know it can be a hassle to pack and carry video equipment on the plane, but nothing is worse than arriving home with a Hi8 tape in a format that nobody else can play. If they can’t be played, I also can’t convert Hi8 to DVD.

It is not difficult to convert PAL VHS or Hi8 tapes in North America, but the problem is that PAL players are rare and expensive. With a relatively small demand for PAL tape conversions, fewer people are investing in PAL players. So, plan to pack your camcorder on your next trip to Turkey.
